Wildfire!

Saturday, winds knocked an old longleaf pine onto a powerline at the far end of the property, away from the ground. The tree then started 2 fire. ALL is Well! The fire was quickly under control & there was no real damage to anything but the underbrush. Thank you to the Weogufka VFD & my old set of discs.

Golden Eagles!

Golden Eagles have been spotted! They have returned & are for some reason circling the campground. We're not sure if they are just curious or if their transient nest has been disturbed by nearby logging. Golden Eagles are harder to spot than their bald cousins, though they are notably larger. The chocolate brown color is one tell. Another is how perfectly straight their wings are in relation to their body. This is the easiest way to distinguish eagles from other raptors.

Today's Bird Sightings

The usual suspects. There is a resident nest of Bald Eagles just across the river & another less than 1 mile upstream from the dam. Osprey are out fishing. Blue Herons always around. They have a distinctive "call" when you disturb them.
